Renés early sculpture took the same elements as the Adornment pieces and added deeper concept and an open playfulness.
When she bound characters in wire it was never to depict punishment or traditional bondage. She liked how it framed parts and drew attention from one area to another and allowed the viewer to explore the work. None of her characters are ever portrayed as though they are in pain. They all have a playful cute quality that was a reflection of Renés personality. Her later work moved into tribal and even plush characters with clay painted faces. Throughout all her sculpture she pushed her vision and created pieces that let the viewer find new elements each time they look.
